January 19 2024,
In a recent development, Honda Canada has introduced the latest Civic Hybrid, a new addition to its range of hybrid-electric vehicles. The company has also announced that the 2025 model of the Civic Hybrid will start production this spring at the Honda of Canada Manufacturing (HCM) facility in Alliston, Ontario.
Significant Milestones and Production Achievements
Honda's Civic has been a key model in its lineup since its debut in Canada 50 years ago. It has gained immense popularity, frequently appearing as one of the top choices for Canadian drivers and maintaining its position as a best-selling passenger car for more than a quarter of a century. HCM, instrumental in the Civic's success, began manufacturing the model in 1988. Celebrating a significant achievement, HCM produced its six-millionth Canadian-made Civic in November 2023. The facility, which houses 4,000 employees, is a prominent figure in Honda's worldwide manufacturing network, notably leading the production of the CR-V Hybrid. The decision to produce the Civic Hybrid at HCM is a testament to Honda's dedication to Canadian manufacturing and its significant role in the company's operations across North America.
Features and Market Projections for the Civic Hybrid
The 2025 Civic Hybrid will feature Honda's acclaimed two-motor hybrid-electric system, recognized for its exceptional performance. This system promises a more dynamic driving experience and enhanced fuel efficiency, especially at higher speeds. Honda predicts that the Civic Hybrid will represent over 40% of Civic sales in North America, indicating a rising interest in hybrid vehicles among consumers.
Honda’s Vision for Electrification
Aligned with its goal of achieving carbon neutrality in all its products and corporate activities by 2050, Honda is advancing its electrification strategy. The company's objective is to ensure that battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles constitute 100% of its new vehicle sales by 2040. This commitment begins with the 2024 launch of the Honda Prologue, the brand's inaugural all-electric SUV, and will continue with the release of a mid- to large-size electric vehicle in 2025. At CES 2024, Honda Motor also unveiled the 'Honda 0 Series' – its new global electric vehicle lineup, which includes innovative concepts like the Saloon and Space-Hub. A production model based on the Saloon concept is slated for release in 2026.
