Honda Canada Marks New Era with 2025 Civic Hybrid Production

Honda of Canada Manufacturing (HCM) has started production of the 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid sedan at its Alliston, Ontario plant. This marks the first time the Civic Hybrid has been manufactured on Canadian soil, signalling a new chapter in Honda's electrification journey.

A Hybrid Future

The 2025 Civic Hybrid is not just another vehicle rolling off the production line; it represents a crucial step in Honda's ambitious electrification strategy. With projections indicating that the hybrid model will account for approximately 60% of all Civic sales in Canada, this move underscores the growing demand for more fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicles.

This production milestone is the result of a substantial $1.38 billion investment made in 2022 to upgrade HCM's facilities. The revamped plant now serves as the North American lead for both CR-V and Civic Hybrid production, cementing Canada's role in Honda's global manufacturing network.

Investing in Canadian Innovation

The decision to produce the Civic Hybrid in Canada goes beyond mere manufacturing. It represents a significant investment in Canadian innovation and workforce development. By retooling both production lines at HCM, Honda has safeguarded thousands of high-quality jobs in Alliston and throughout its extensive Canadian supplier network.

Building a Sustainable Future

Honda's vision extends far beyond hybrid vehicles. The company aims to have battery-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles represent 100% of its North American vehicle sales by 2040. This ambitious goal aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change.

To support this vision, Honda has announced plans to establish a comprehensive EV value chain in Canada. This includes the construction of new EV and EV battery plants alongside the existing facilities in Alliston, Ontario. These new plants are expected to begin production in 2028, with a capacity of 240,000 EVs and 36 GWh of batteries per year.

Community Impact and Job Creation

The impact of Honda's investments extends well beyond the factory floor. The new EV initiatives are expected to maintain the current employment level of 4,200 associates and create an additional 1,000 new jobs. Furthermore, the investment will generate significant spinoff employment opportunities across various sectors, including construction.
